Ben, Carol and their daughters are excited to be moving into their new home. Completely unaware that the abandoned orphanage was the location of a brutal massacre, the family soon become convinced that they are not alone.
Initial release: 2011
Director: Dan Walton
It was originally called Bind but in wide release was retitled American Conjuring in a clear attempt to jump on board the success of The Conjuring (2013) and The Conjuring 2 (2016). You cannot help but notice that being Canadian-made, this renders the 'American' part of the title redundant.
A family moves into an abandoned orphanage and they soon learn that their charming orphanage has a disturbing history and are convinced they aren't alone. A poorly made film with an ending that comes out of nowhere. The actors say words but never convince they are real people. It is filmed in bleak colours that don't excite the eye. Originally called 'Bind' for some reason but changed to 'American Conjuring' for an obvious reason.
Conjuring depicts the 18th-century farmhouse in Rhode Island where Roger and Carolyn Perron (Lili Taylor and Ron Livingston) and their five daughters allegedly were terrified and even possessed by spirits. Ed Warren died in 2006, but Lorraine, now 86, was a consultant on the film and remains a paranormal investigator.
This was later confirmed by Warner Bros., which also stated that the film would be loosely based on real-life events surrounding Ed and Lorraine Warren.
