The protagonist of the movie is a preacher named Baba Nirala (Bobby Deol), whose adherents (most of them are from the underprivileged areas of society) have blind confidence in him and will do whatever he commands of them. While politicians Hukum Singh (Sachin Shroff) and incumbent CM Sundar Lal (Anil Rastogi) compete for his support in the upcoming State Legislative Assembly Elections due to his large following for their vote bank politics, which only increase after a pop singer, Tinka Singh (Adhyayan Suman), decides to conduct to, Baba Nirala is actually a conman turned godman, who ensures that his devotees devote their wealth.
Until he meets Dr. Natasha (Anupriya Goenka) in a case involving a skeleton found on the property of an industrial group with strong ties to Sundar Lal, SI Ujagar Singh (Darshan Kumar), a cop who isn't really interested in his job and just follows his seniors' orders, is a cop who isn't really interested in his work. He is persuaded to embark on this case by her persistent nagging and the tenacity of a small-time journalist named Akhivendra Rathi (Rajeev Siddhartha), who also serves as his senior policeman assistant (Vikram Kocchar).
Bobby Deol and director Prakash Jha received legal notice from the Jodhpur Court in December 2020 after Karni Sena filed a lawsuit against them for offending their feelings and claiming that the show "is an attempt to denigrate Hinduism and ashrams." The Bajrang Dal group vandalised the sets for the Aashram online series in October 2021 after Prakash Jha was accused of defaming Hindus and the entire aashram system in his web series.
