A man and a boy are hiking
over a river in the Anantapur district in the 1980s, carrying homemade bombs. A
woman, a man, and a small girl are also hiding from the police in another part
of the village.
In a flashback, the narrator
reveals that the guy is Narappa, and the youngster is his son Seenappa.
Narappa's wife, Sundaramma, her brother Basavaiah, and daughter Bujjamma are
the woman, man, and child. Munikanna, their older son, was also born to them.
They are a Ramasagaram-based farming family. Narappa has a good relationship
with his older son, but with Seenappa he is distant, nearly abusive. Narappa is
from a farming family.
Panduswamy, a landlord from
Vadakoor (lit. northern village), is planning a cement plant with his youngest
son Doraswamy, and they'll need Narappa's 3 acres of land, which the family,
particularly Munikanna, is opposed to selling. Sundaramma is attacked by
Panduswamy's son Rangababu one day, and Munikanna retaliates by wounding him
badly and imprisoning him. As a result, Narappa begs Panduswamy to release
Munikanna, and Panduswamy demands that Narappa prostrate in front of every male
inhabitant of the landlord's hamlet as atonement. Munikanna recognises this and
beats Panduswamy with a slipper. Panduswamy's henchmen, commanded by a hunter
named Gampanna, behead Munikanna as a form of retaliation.
The picture then jumps forward
to the present day. Doraswamy and Rangababu command Gampanna to locate the
pair. He finds them and nearly kills Seenappa. Narappa defeats them all and
explains why he saved their lives when they revive.
He was a village-famous
moonshine brewer and trusted servant to Shankaraiah, a landlord, twenty years
ago. He persuades his boss to hire Seenu, a distant relative of Shankaraiah, as
a clerk one day. Munnappa, Narappa's brother, and Varadarajulu, a lawyer, are
fighting to reclaim the land of their poor farming community from landlords who
had unjustly stolen it. Narappa's family has tried and failed to find him a
bride because he is a brewer.
Kannamma, Narappa's elder
sister's daughter, who is frustrated, makes a proposal to her uncle, which he
and the family approve. Shankaraiah gradually gets Seenu's trust and he becomes
his mill accountant. When Narappa beats Seenu inside the mill for refusing to
lend him Rs. 1, he plots his vengeance. Meanwhile, Narappa gives Kannamma
sandals. Seenu smacks Kannamma in the face and compels her to go through the
village with her sandals on her head. Narappa retaliates by stomping on him
with his sandals in the midst of the village and tying him up, but Shankaraiah
chastises him. Narapppa, humiliated, gives up brewing and joins his brother.
The news that Varadarajulu
has been detained arrives one night before a meeting between Munnappa and
Narappa, and Narappa is dispatched to acquire the documentation permitting the
meeting. When he arrives, Munappa has been killed by Seenu, and Narappa's
entire family, including Kannamma, has been burned alive in their huts.
Narappa, enraged, murders Shankaraiah, Seenu, and their men.
Narappa then leaves the
hamlet, only to be discovered months later by Basavaiah, who taught him how to
farm. Sundaramma, who isn't getting any marriage proposals, is also introduced
to him. Sundaramma admires what he achieved for his family when he tells his
storey. He surrenders to the court and receives a light sentence.
He marries Sundaramma after serving his sentence. Seenappa is awestruck by his
father's past and begins to respect him. Narappa reconciles with his wife and
seeks assistance from Varadarajulu, who encourages them to appear in court the
following day.
Narappa and his son leave as
Doraswamy and Rangababu arrange an ambush near the courthouse.
Later, to protect Seenappa
from Panduswamy's family, Narappa unwillingly sells his land. Doraswamy and
Rangababu, on the other hand, kidnap and torture Seenappa in direct violation
of the agreement. Narappa, enraged, murders them and many of their henchmen at
this time. Both he and Seenappa are seriously hurt. Basavaiah and his villagers
arrive armed, and the situation is defused.
Finally, it is revealed that
the two villages reached an agreement to terminate the feud and avoid a village
battle.
Finally, it is revealed that
the two villages reached an agreement to terminate the feud and avoid a village
battle. In court, Narappa's family has assembled, and he has agreed to go to
jail instead of Seenappa if required. He advises his son to study hard and find
work, noting that, unlike land and money, landlords cannot grab his education.
Narappa smiles at his family as he enters the courtroom at the end of the film.
