Adwaita, a
giant tortoise from Aldabra, died in March 2006 in Alipore Zoo, Kolkata,
India, at an estimated age of 255. If verified, it is going to be the world's
oldest terrestrial animal.
Tu'i Malila, a radiated
tortoise, died at the time of the oldest verified vertebrate at the age of
188 in May 1965.
